- We take no money in exchange for a story, better placement or a friendlier angle. There is no price list because there is nothing to sell.
- Sometimes we pay for someone’s time.
- Once in a while we compensate a subject for a long interview. When we do, the story says so. That payment buys their time. It does not buy any say in what we write or whether we run it.
- You check the facts, not the framing.
- We send quotes and numbers back to you before publication so you can catch errors. The angle, the headline and what makes the cut are ours.
- Sponsored content gets labeled.
- If a business ever pays for content here, it will say so at the top and it will not look like our reporting.
- We correct things in public.
- Corrections go on the story with a date and a note about what was wrong. We do not quietly change published work.
- We disclose conflicts.
- If a writer or editor has a personal or financial tie to someone we are covering, we say so on the story or hand it to somebody else.

Within five business days, whether or not we agree with you.
You can see the change
Corrected stories carry a dated note saying what was wrong. We describe the error, we do not erase it.
Disagreements get noted
If we decide not to correct something and you still disagree, we say that on the story too.
